The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is now firmly established in FHS thanks to the dedication and hard work of Mr Carr and his team (Miss Burgess, Mr Robertson, Mr Price, Miss Ihenacho, Mr Brodie and Miss Overend) At the moment we have 50 students working towards their Bronze and Silver Awards. The Bronze Award students have already completed their task which was to do a long walk and camp overnight using all the outdoor skills they have learnt over the previous few months.
The Silver Award students had to sleep rough for 2 nights in shelters they had built themselves. Both groups did extremely well and Mr Carr was impressed by the sheer determination, hard work and positive attitude shown by our students throughout the trips. It also looks as if they had a lot of fun! The Duke of Edinburgh group meets every Wednesday and Friday after school and Mr Carr would like to encourage more students from Year 8 upwards to consider joining; having a D of E Award is a very cool qualification to have on your CV!
I really enjoy the DofE; It's great because you get to meet new people and go to new places. It's good experience of working as a team to achieve challenging goals. It's good fun!
