Miss Rushton’s Year 10 GCSE Catering group have been completing their first piece of practical exam coursework recently. Four dishes have to be made in 3 hours, without help from the teacher. They then have to be presented for assessment.
A lot of planning and written work goes into preparing for the day and pupils evaluate their dishes once they are completed and presented. Pupils arrive in school at 8am to prepare their ingredients and kitchen area as they understand the importance of being well organised for the session.
So far, pupils have thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of the course and a large number of staff have sneaked into the kitchen at the end of the session and commented on the high quality of food being produced.
