Call The Midwife

Child Development pupils recently had a visit from a retired midwife, Mrs Joyce Sullivan, who gave a talk on the birth of a baby including the stages of labour and the various pain relief available. She brought with her a model of a pelvis, a “knitted” uterus and placenta and a “rag doll” baby! Possible complications at birth e.g. breech babies, twins etc. were discussed at length.

The morning ended with an animated question and answer session. Mrs Sullivan complemented the pupils on the mature way in which they were involved in the discussions, which are naturally of a sensitive nature.
