Career Convention 2018

We were pleased to welcome a variety of different organisations to the Fazakerley High School Careers Convention this month which was attended by over 250 pupils.

Deciding on a future career can be challenging as there is so much choice today however starting career research as soon as possible can only be a positive activity. Our Careers Convention is not the only answer to this but it is certainly one very valuable method in addition to the other opportunities that pupils are given during their time with us.
It was wonderful to welcome back alumni to help at their old school. Caitlin Sillitoe from BAM Construction. Megan Keane of BDO UK Accountancy and Finance , Nathan Chan of Greystone Financial Services, Jake Hansen of Zoll Medical Corp, Amanda ONeil recently qualified secondary computer science teacher, Aidanne Lewis early years education undergraduate, Katie Yen and Michael Edgerton of Miss Papp; all generously gave up their time to engage with pupils to discuss their professions.

Likewise we had a variety of other agencies and professionals in attendance including;

  • Parent - Mrs C Marrs – Nurse
  • Schneider Electric - Felice Hurlstone
  • Construction Industry Training Board – CITB
  • Knowsley Safari Park – Hayley Worsfold
  • William Smith - Science & Technology Facilities Council -Daresbury Laboratory
  • Jodie Barber – University of Liverpool – Biology Faculty
  • Jayne Bradley – NHS
  • Army Careers Centre – Long Lane
  • National Citizens Service

The representatives discussed the nature of their work, entry requirements, training and prospects for career development. Pupils also gained an idea of how to act and behave around professionals.

Miss Jones, the School Career Advisor, was also in attendance to answer any pupils' questions.

We would like to extend our thanks to all those involved.
