Well, what a wonderful night we had at the 2014 Year 11 Prom held for the first time at the Valentine Suite at Aintree Racecourse. As usual our students looked amazing; the girls were stunning in their beautiful dresses and the boys so handsome in their finery. The evening was one of glamour and fun; the atmosphere was brilliant. Mr Carr put together a slide show of old photos from the past five years which caused a lot of laughter and happy memories. Students and staff enjoyed a delicious sit-down meal and there was a photo booth and a sweet stall.
One of the biggest highlights of the evening was when the school band played. Officially known as the Rock Jets LA Group (no, I didn’t know that either!) they gave us a fabulous set of old and new classics including numbers by The Kings of Leon, Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles. The band is not just staff (Mr Boardman, Mr Robertson, Mr Ryan, Mr Valente, Mr McGrath, Mr Davy who were all singing and playing a variety of instruments) but also had Year 14 stalwart, Matty Gregson on bass and Andrew O’Meara on keyboards; Emily Deacon and Kieran Crawford both contributed vocally and It was fantastic and much appreciated by the Year 11 students.
Later on Keiren Wood did his famous solo dance to ‘Viva Las Vegas’ which went down a storm! During the evening, time was taken to thank the Year 11 form tutors, Mr Connolly, Mr Walshaw, Miss Murray, Mr Wood, Mrs Whittle and Mr Hodgkiss. A special thankyou was given to Year mentor, Mrs Deane who has watched over the year group like a mother hen since they were in Year 7!
It was a wonderful night that was a fitting end of the students’ time at Fazakerley High School and the staff wish 2014’s Year 11 every happiness for their future!
