As part of our commitment to celebrate and promote reading, some of our year eight classes have been taking part in the Carnegie Shadowing Project. The Carnegie Medal is a prestigious award for children's fiction and there are eight shortlisted titles this year. Past winners include writers such as Michael Morpurgo, David Almond and Frank Cotrell Boyce.
The pupils are reading as many of the shortlisted books as possible in the upcoming weeks and have so far been very impressed with the competition this year!
Adam Grierson has just finished The Wall by William Sutcliffe and would recommend the book because of it's unexpected ending and gripping plot which made it hard to put down.
Another pupil, Aron Kellaher read The Bunker Diary by Kevin Brooks and enjoyed it's exciting plot. The best part of the book according to Aron was how it made the audience grow attached to the main character.
The winner of the Carnegie Medal will be announced on Monday 23rd June 2014 and pupils will have to wait until then to see if their favourite title wins the award.
